However, anti-inflammatory effect Philippine honey obtained from local stingless bees remains unexplored poorly investigated. Hence, this study delved on potential topically applied bee (PSH) using λ-Carrageenan-induced mouse model paw edema. Materials Methods: A total 30, male ICR mice six weeks age were randomly divided into following groups (n=10 per group) as follows: Distilled water-, 1% Diclofenac sodium-, Honey-treated group. All treatments administered immediately after Carrageenan injection then every 8 hr during 24-hr test duration. Results: Repeated topical application PSH significantly attenuated gross hind swelling observed at onset 6 post-induction (pi) until 24 pi with contrast to water-treated This corresponded histologically marked reduction dermal thickness, edema, leukocytic infiltration. Whereas, cytokine level, correlated significant suppression circulating blood levels pro-inflammatory cytokines, TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6. Conclusion: Based these results, shows convincing activity which is partly mediated through regulation expression inflammation-associated cytokines. Keywords:Anti-inflammatory, IL-6, bees, TNF-α.View:PDF (1.75 MB)

Foraging behavior of stingless bees (Tetragonula biroi Friese): distance, direction and height of preferred food source

We examine the foraging behavior of stingless bees (Tetragonula biroi Friese) with regard to their preference of food location. The three factors considered are distance of the food source from the hive, direction of the food source, and height of the food source from the ground. Single-factor experiments for each factor were performed to determine the preferred food location. Statistical analy...
